The award Selection Committee will look for one who has gone \u201cbeyond expectations\u201d in making outstanding contributions in the area of service, particularly service to the UNCG community. The winner will receive a $500 award.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A qualified recipient could be described in Dr. King\u2019s own words, in his \u201cConquering Self-Centeredness\u201d speech given in Montgomery, Alabama, on August 11, 1957:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAn individual has not started living fully until they can rise above the narrow confines of individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of humanity \u2026 Every person must decide at some point, whether they will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness. This is the judgment. Life\u2019s most persistent and urgent question is, \u201cWhat are you doing for others?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rev. Explain the nature of the individual and the steps he\/she has taken to &#8220;go the extra mile.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Impact of Involvement: Describe in detail how the individual has impacted the community and\/or individual(s) through his\/her efforts. What has he\/she done to &#8220;make a difference?&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resourcefulness: Describe how the applicant makes use of the resources available to her or him.
